People and Culture keys to Holland Beckett’s success.
When Holland Beckett Lawyers won the Retail and Service Excellence category of the Westpac Tauranga Business Awards recently, it was due to the efforts of the entire team.
Holland Beckett’s application for the Awards noted: “We are unashamedly a people business both from a staffing and client perspective”.
The partners of the Tauranga legal services firm freely admit that every single member of staff deserves credit for the win. There’s a universal can-do attitude that enables Holland Beckett to challenge the standard legal business model — which has been the key to the firm’s recent impressive growth.
Despite the recession, Holland Beckett has recruited 16 new staff in the last two years; all of a high calibre and in a range of practice areas. Recent recruits have indicated they want to be part of the growth that the region and firm are experiencing. The full team now numbers almost 50. Equally important, there’s impressive staff loyalty. Fifteen have been with the firm for more than 15 years, including five who have chalked up more than 30 years.
“Holland Beckett is widely regarded as a highly supportive, fun and social place to work. It’s also one of the most successful and respected legal services firms in the Bay of Plenty,” explains Bill Holland, the firm’s Senior Partner and 2009 Westpac Business Leader of the year. The culture is strong, the staff are happy and the firm is in good health.
Holland Beckett has an energetic leadership team – all seven partners are committed and passionate about their business and clients. The strategic planning, implementation and monitoring of their business plan has placed the firm in a strong position to face the challenges of the current market and beyond.
Staff and clients enjoy a cutting-edge work and office environment. Holland Beckett’s new offices at The Hub at 525 Cameron Road, which opened in 2008, are ‘open plan, open door’. Stylish, free-flowing work areas ensure the partners are more accessible and the staff more engaged. Their modern and innovative office layout enables better supervision, better delegation and better quality control of the service that the firm provides for clients. The clients feel good when they visit and can enjoy Hobec’s award winning service in pleasant, comfortable and confidential surroundings.
Not only did the firm win the Retail and Service Excellence Award, but it was also a finalist in the Community Service/Social Responsibility Category and the Business Growth and Development Category. Not only does this show that the firm operates under a good business model, but also that it supports and is well connected to the local community.
Holland Beckett’s long time mission statement is “To ensure that our clients have the confidence to recommend us to others.” Wining the Retail and Service Excellence Award and being recognised for business excellence by their peers after an extensive judging process, will only serve to reinforce the confidence the firm’s clients already have when recommending the firm to others.
